Finially got around to making version 2.0 of my home brew boost gauge mount! (top is before, bottom is after) 2.0 is much cleaner looking if I do say so myself. It is still being held in place by 3m double sided tape though...

Disclaimer: I am not an engineer, designer, or student of product development, just a lowly accountant with a whole lot of passion, , high standards, a great imagination, a 3D printer, and plenty of tools.

that’s pretty cool!

what type of 3D printer do you have?

Thanks! I have a MakerBot Replicator 2X. It works well, my issues are that I am a perfectionist, and to design something from scratch so that it looks oem-like takes me forever! But I am getting better at it. Ive done a few other car parts, mostly for my first car, the boost gauge is the most Ive done for the S6.

Which 3m did you use? I’ve had regular 3m detach from heat and become all goopy. But 3m extreme is what’s holding my spoiler to my trunk.

Looks good! I built a 3D printer a while ago, and it’s little things like this that, although you wouldn’t think of it before you have one, the printer is VERY handy for!

Oh yea! My lack of education is what keeps me from attacking the big things like impoved interior trim etc. but its one step at a time... The hardest part is making things work with other existing surfaces/contours.

Not sure, it said heavy duty on the box lol. Never had an issue with mount version 1.0, and it wasnt even flush to the surface. 2.0 should do fine as well, as it has better contact with the steering column.

Re posting it for the west coast, but mainly cause I’m a dirty attention whore.

Aaand, thanks! lol I took it for a drive just before, very happy with its placement.

My A4 has the same 3-spoke Sport wheel. That thing is the sex.

Nothing wrong with 3M VHB. I am an engineer for an airline interiors company and we use that stuff all the time.

#1 love your car. Not long before I knew of your postings I had a fantastic dream where I had just bought one, and it was the happiest I remember being in a while (I had a mint coupe). My two big dogs fit in it and everything.

#2 what is the strength rating on the parts you can reate you think?...make me rally light mounts? Ha just two simple 6” triangles with a couple beefy bolt slugs on the top and bottom, for support stanchions and the Hella’s I’ve been hoarding.

Thanks! Shes a keeper, especially since its an avant. As for the lights anything is doable if its designed right. What car are they for, getting them to work with uneven(read variable) surfaces is a bitch. As for size I’m limited to printing on a plate; 9Lx6Wx6H. anthing bigger requires printing it in parts, and then assembling after (where the pieces come together are the weak points)
